Tricks of the Trade: Expired Coupon Project!

tricks_of_the_trade

If you use coupons then you undoubtedly have expired coupons. What do you do with them? Do you toss them or do you save them? I’ve recently started saving mine – why save them if you can’t use them you ask? Because we can send them overseas to military bases for the families there to use! How great is that? They can use expired coupons up to 6 months after they have expired!

Amy at Coupon Clippin’ Mama had a great “Expired Coupon Project” she was doing before she had to walk away from her blog. Before stepping down as blogger I connected with Amy and have now connected with her friend Debbie  and we are all working together to  keep the Expired Coupon Project rolling!

So, this is officially the beginning of The MommyTrade’s Expired Coupon Project! Here is how it works: We save our expired coupons (and those that haven’t expired but we aren’t going to use). We separate them into Food & Non-Food groups. We mail them (all together) to Debbie and then she works with her 3rd Grade class to sort, organize, total and mail them off to the military bases. It’s pretty simple on our part – but we do have to do our part to help make it run smoothly for Debbie.

Here are the guidelines to participate in the project:

  • You will need to separate your coupons into two categories: Food & Non-Food.
  • Make sure your coupons are already clipped
  • You CAN send expired internet coupons AS LONG AS they are Manufacturer coupons.
  • No store coupons
  • Send coupons that are no more than 2 months after their expiration time. (Military will be able to use the coupons up to 6 months after their expiration, but we need to consider the time it takes to get there as well as the time it will take people to organize them all.)
  • If you really want to help, you can sort by money value too. It makes it easier to add up the totals but is not a must. If you should do this, you do not have to put them in different envelops or bags. Just keep them in order in the food and nonfood categories.

We have two bases that Debbie is sending the coupons to:

  • Sasebo, Japan
  • Sweinfert, Germany

To date the readers of Coupon Clippin’ Mama have mailed $8,499.92 worth of coupons to these two bases! Isn’t that amazing??

So you ready to join the project?? All you need to do is send an email to Debbie and she’ll give you the mailing address. Her email address is: expiredcouponqueen@me.com

I will post regular reminders to send the coupons but a good habit to start would be to save them when you clean out your coupons every month!

For those of you who have found me through the Coupon Clippin’ Mama welcome! Let me know you’re here and if you are already a part of the project by leaving a comment below!

Both of these bases were adopted through THIS website. If you want to adopt your own personal base you are more than welcome too.
