Ticks of the Trade: Wrapping Station

tricks_of_the_trade

So do you have a good start on your  Christmas shopping yet? Have you started to get your wrapping yet? I have 95% of my shopping done but only 1 gift wrapped! I need to get started!

If you’ve been reading The MommyTrade for a while then you probably can guess that I have a system to make my wrapping as easy as I can. All I’m waiting for now is the perfect night to get it done! (I really have to be in the right mood to wrap this many gifts!)

Here is my “system”:

mystation

It’s my gift wrapping station. I wish I could tell you it was in a room all by itself but my house isn’t even CLOSE to be being that large! But none the less this is where I’ll be doing my gift wrapping and what I’ll be using to make it as easy as possible! (If I start out with everything in one place I’ve saved myself a good 30 minutes of starting and stopping to get everything else I forgot!)

You can see in the picture what I have – starting on the far right on the floor you’ll see I have a trash can. If I can get the trash into a can to start with there is less to clean up! I just took this from my desk for the “event”.

On the table to the far right you’ll also see that I have some gifts stacked and ready to be wrapped.

In front of the gifts you’ll find this:

- Tape, Scissors, labels and a pen.

To the left of the gifts you’ll see my ribbon and bows:

I’ve put my spools of ribbon on my paper towel holder to keep them all in one place. And I’ve put my bows into a box (I store them this way all year round). If I keep them in the box they will stay contained and I have less “mess” to contend with.

On the far left of the table you’ll see these:

These are my boxes, tissue paper and my gift bags.

And on the floor (far left) you’ll see another trash can:

This trashcan holds my wrapping paper when I’m not using it. I like to keep my wrapping paper upright in a trashcan so that I can easily grab it and so that it doesn’t roll away from me!

When I am worn out and done wrapping for the night (because I can’t get it all done in one night) I take everything off the table and neatly put it into the trashcan my wrapping paper is in. It looks something like this:

It’s nothing too elaborate but it keeps everything “contained” and ready for when I go to tackle this big job.

I did hunt for a few other wrapping station ideas to share with you. (You can click on the images to see their sources)

If you have the space and money to invest in a permanent station here is a great idea. Simple clean and beautiful!

If you want something a bit more “recycled” or frugal you could go this route:

Or, you could use what you got in the laundry room! I really really like this idea! My washer and dryer are in the dirty garage so this wouldn’t work for me but what a great idea to just warp gifts right there on to of the washer and dryer!

Lastly, here is an idea for keeping your things together if you have a  “mobile” station like me:

I’d love to hear from you if you have any other ideas or suggestions! Leave a comment or email me!

Happy Wrapping!
