A friend of mine posted this on Facebook and I knew I wanted to share it- this was one of the verses in the daily reading schedule we use for 12/31 :

“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs with NO FEAR OF THE FUTURE.”
Proverbs 31:25

Isn’t that appropriate for the last day of the year as we look to the future that 2010 will bring us?

To learn how to become a Proverbs 31 woman is always a prayer of mine. I know that it is not something God will grant me overnight – but rather it is a process of learning and growing for the rest of my life. I am convinced that the woman described in Proverbs 31 wasn’t that way on day 1 of becoming a wife but learned to be such all her life starting as a young child through her years as being a wife. So if you too desire to beomce a Proverb’s 31 woman then I encourage you in your journey! When the days come that you are frustrated and feel like you are the opposite of a Proverbs 31 women remember – it’s a process and desiring to become a woman like her will take time!

May you be clothed with strength and dignity and laugh at the future with no fear as you enter 2010!

“If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.” 1 John 1:8-10

I LOVE this passage. If we confess what we’ve done wrong then we’ll be forgiven – plain and simple. Why do we try to make it so much harder than that? Isn’t this why Jesus came and really the reason we celebrate Christmas this time of year? Without the death of Christ at Easter there would be no signifigance to birth of Christ at Christmas.

I pray that you will see the wrong in your own life – especially the small stuff we try to pretend isn’t there (at least I do) – and make things right with God today.

“Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory. You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart. For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.” 1 Peter 1:21-23 (NLT)

“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.” 1 Peter 1:23 (NIV)

I love that verse that I bolded – vs 23. It’s easy to forget sometimes that as a Christian my life isn’t only now in the physical. I sometimes loose my eternal perspective and this verse brings it right back for me – because of my faith in Christ I am no longer perishable (as the wording in the NIV says) but I’ve been reborn with imperishable seed – a seed that will last forever! What does that mean? I have eternal life! And I need to keep that perspective when I get caught up in the busy-ness and details of everyday life. I have to ask myself – does this matter in eternity? Brings it right back for me every time!

“It’s not true because it’s in the Bible, it ’s in the Bible because it’s true” (anonymous)

“Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.” Hebrews 13:17 (NLT)

I came across this verse in my devotions today and thought it was such an important verse that I wanted to share it with you. We have the responsibility to obey the spiritual leaders that God has put above us. We have to remember that even if we don’t agree with them, we are still accountable for our actions towards them (and our words about them) and that ultimately they are accountable to God for their own choices – right or wrong.

Our responsibility as believers is to be obedient to God and in that we have to be obedient to those he appoints as leaders in his Church. I hope that you will take heed to this verse and remember that we should encourage and support the leadership around us and give them a reason to do their job with Joy!

If you have a few minutes I would encourage you to read the entire chapter this verse is in – chapter 13. It’s a great chapter with some reminders of how we are to interact with others and with God. You can read it HERE online if you’d like!

(Please know that I am not talking about staying under a leader who is not lining up with the Word of God. I pray that you will study the Bible for yourself and know what it says so that you will know the Truth and not be deceived by those who try to twist it or misinterpret it.)
