Expired Coupon Project

If you use coupons then you undoubtedly have expired coupons. What do you do with them? Do you toss them or do you save them? I’ve recently started saving mine! Why save them if you can’t use them you ask? Well, we can send them overseas to military bases for the families there to use! How great is that? They can use expired coupons up to 6 months after they have expired!
I have recently begun a partnership with Debbie – the Expired Coupon Queen – to collect and mail as many expired coupons that we can get our hands on to different military bases around the world. We currently send out coupons to 3 separate military bases:
- Sasebo, Japan
- Sweinfert, Germany
- Brussels, Belguim
(These bases were adopted through the Overseas Coupon Project)
The whole process is pretty straight forward from beginning to end. Every month when I clean out my coupons I set aside all the manufacturer coupons; separating them into food & non-food groups. Then I mail my coupons to Debbie and she adds mine to all of those she’s been collecting. Then around the 20th of each month she splits them and send them to the 3 separate bases we have adopted. Some months she enlists the help of her 3rd grade class to help sort and amil the coupons but most months she does it all.
We would LOVE to have your join our project every month (or however often you clean out your coupons). There are some guidelines that we ask you to follow when sending in your coupons:
- Please separate your coupons into two categories: Food & Non-Food. (You can mail them all in the same envelope – and to save more money check out the Flat Rate Envelopes the post office offices.)
- Make sure your coupons are already clipped.
- You CAN send expired internet coupons AS LONG AS they are Manufacturer coupons.
- No store coupons
- Send coupons that are NO MORE than 2 MONTHS expired. (Military will be able to use the coupons up to 6 months after their expiration, but this will allow time for collection and mailing of the coupons)
- Please send any coupons you won’t use – even if they haven’t expired yet!
In addition to sending coupons you can help Debbie out by including either of the following (these are completely optional):
- Send a dollar or two to help offset the cost of shipping. Debbie pays for shipping out of her own pocket each month. This can cost anywhere from $5 to $40 – just depending on how many coupons she has.
- Include any Box Tops for Education you may have. These aren’t so much for the military families as they are for Debbie’s school. Her school collects these each year. This would be a small thank you to the children in her class who volunteer to help sort these coupons.
To date Debbie has mailed $50,000+ worth of coupons to these three bases! Isn’t that amazing?? (last updated Jan. 2010)
So you ready to join the project?? All you need to do is send an email to Debbie and she’ll give you the mailing address. Her email address is: expiredcouponqueen@me.com
I will post updates from Debbie when I get them and other reminders from time to time. For the most recent updates on The MommyTrade CLICK HERE or the button on the sidebar to your right!
